This opportunity for children, and especially Team Chess players, is fantastic! As already mentioned, the Arnold Classic Africa only came to South Africa in 2016. It is therefore our third Team Chess event that is coming. The big day, that will be determined at Sandton Convention Center, is on Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 May 2019. The various Team Chess teams in the three categories mentioned will be decided on Friday from 7:30 to 20:55 (20/20 minutes). The different school teams, and groups in which they participate, will be announced later. Teams that qualify will participate on Saturday, 18 May 2019, from 7:30 to 14:10 to determine who will be crowned the respective three Arnold Classic champions. (See provisions)
As the teams finish, they will get their certificates. The third place teams also receive their certificates and bronze medals after their last match. The only reason they do not receive their medals during the prize-giving function is because the final matches are decided much later and from experience we know that the parents and players are no longer present.
The final prize-giving function of the winners (first places) and runners-up (second places) in the respective categories takes place at 14:30. The final program will be sent by the end of April.
This calls for patience to arrange matters to give teams the opportunity to participate on Saturday. Friday’s last game starts at 20:15 and the placing of teams in later time slots do not always suit everyone, so we ask for consideration because one change can bring about many other changes. It takes a lot of shifting and moving in order to play 54 matches on the Friday and 15 matches on Saturday. If there are any requests in this regard that really bear weight, please contact me so that it can be resolved in good time.
Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.
